I've got this Elmo ST180 projector which is in pristine condition and the amplifier works as it should, but someone has removed the wires from the pickup and erase heads, leaving just one wire in it's original position. (hopefully)

PLEASE..... can anyone here tell me which pins on the pickup and erase heads connect to the soldering points on the small connector board that the main wiring from the amplifier plugs in to. There are eight pins on the sound head and eight wires soldered to the connection points on the connector board that the main lead plugs on to. I need to know which pins on the board should be soldered to which pins on the pickup and erase heads.

A photo of a correctly wired board and it's connections to the sound head would be helpful, or a list of the pins from bottom to top on the board and which pins on the sound head they need to be soldered to.

Thankyou in hopeful anticipation.

Regards from New Zealand.

Frank.

Frank, I think I have an ST-180 around here somewhere. I'll check and get back to you. If not, call Leon Norris. He will know. You can find Leon's contact by clicking Film & Film Related Sellers above.

Thankyou for that Dan.
I'll wait for your result.

Cheers,
Frank.

Here we go. Here are three views:

Frank, while I was moving the head assembly around 3 wires came loose. Soldering them back on does not make a very strong connection. I am thinking about adding push on connectors to the wires and pushing them on to the pins on the bottom of the head.

Looking at the bottom of the head from left to right the top row is - pink - white - brown - black.
Looking across the bottom of the head from left to right the bottom row is - yellow - white - grey - black.

That's really great Dan,
Yes those connections are quite easily broken. I bet there's been a few of them broken over the years.
I'll resolder mine and get it working again before I decide whether to fit push on connectors.
Thankyou very much for your help and for those photos.
I should be able to fix mine now.

Regards and thanks,
Frank.

UPDATE.....

Well I re soldered the wires and it's working now, but hardly any sound volume.
I've cleaned the volume pot etc and the record switch but can still hardly hear the sound with the volume control set to full.
There's great gain at the soldered joins to the magnetic pickup and if I drag a screwdriver across the pickup head it makes quite a noise through the speaker. I've looked at the soundtrack alignment and it seems to be running true.

What else could it be apart from a crook sound pickup head?

demagnetize the heads

I did the above reply by speaking into a smartphone. You should have read the first couple of attempts. [set5_b/set5_b/willy_nilly.gif]

Begging pardon in advance if I'm asking the obvious, but have you tried a different film through the projector?

Yeah I did that last week but the demagnetiser is very old and may not be working correctly.
I'll see if I can get a new one.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Chris,

Yes I even tried another film, but same prob.
I'd already run the test film in another projector, just in case.....and it worked ok.

Funnier things have happened of course. Thanks for your suggestion.
