I like the Kodak Pageant, though I much prefer the later models with the top-mounted reel arms like the one shown here, over the earlier ones with the drop-down take-up arm that had to be perched on the edge of a table. They are quiet running and very gentle on film, and I've always found the sound quality more than adequate. Never did care much though for that sound-focusing lever, always seemed to me a "gimmick" feature; bump it out of place accidentally and the sound turns mushy. I always kept mine blocked with tape in one position and it gave good results whether the film was base down, base up, OR Cinecolor.

Someone once told me that Kodak's own repair shops had specially designed workbenches to hold the Pageant chassis(es??) in position so they could work on them handily. Don't know if that's true, but it sounds logical enough.

Another company, whose name I can't remember, bought Pageants from Kodak, tricked them out with freeze-frame and motion analysis features, and rebranded them as "Athena" projectors. Athenas have a lousy reputation for reliability, all due to the extra-added stuff installed by that company.

I am sure there was a holding fixture or some kind of jig to hold the projector after its apart. When I got my first Pageant it needed work and when I took it apart I realized how difficult it is to keep it steady and maneuver it around on the work bench. It works fine now and I still never use it.

AV-126-TR does not have Magnetic capability.

Some of the Kodak projector service manuals showed how to build the support jig to hold the projector chassis.

There were two companies that sold modified Kodak projectors: Lafayette and Athena.

That makes sense. Any chance you or someone else could post the diagram and instructions on building such a support jig? Could be a great benefit to any DIY repairmen out there.

Thanks for mentioning the Lafayette projector; I looked up an online photo of their "Motion Analyzer" projector, and it's a Kodak all right, with who-knows-what modifications done on it. Was this the Lafayette Instrument Company, which is still in business (mainly polygraph "lie detectors!") or the now-defunct Lafayette Radio & Electronics, who were a sort of mail-order version of Radio Shack?

The Athena machines were sold by a now defunct outfit called L-W International. I read a blog post from a TV engineer whose station in Chicago was equipped with them; he described them as "a nightmare," constantly breaking down from problems with the non-Kodak modification parts.
