Anyone collect only standard 8 films. If so, how extensive are your collections? Do you have sound and silent or just silent. What's the brightest lamp projector available for std 8? My Eumig is 100watt. i see quite a few std 8 films in Phil Sheard's catalogue and Stave Osborne's latest issue of The Reel Image offers a large selection of std 8 silent films.

Am currently buying a bunch of standard 8 films both features and a few shorts from other collectors. I like them because they are rare. I have several rare standard 8 features with L&H, A few reprints. I like the format since they are easy to buy at a low price since not many of us can show them. I do admit I'm not as impressed with them as I am with super 8. I like a large screen size plus more modern films are available on super 8. For standard 8 I do like collecting the classics. B&W Films stand out more on sharp Blackhawk prints than more modern prints in some cases.

Since you asked formats, My Eumig is a 75 Watt lamp with a zoom lens. Not a huge image but the sound is clear as a bell and the image at max zoom from 25 feet is clear with a little bowing on the sides. I'm using the Eumig 807D.

You collect model airplanes too!! Oink! oink! Sorry, I just couldn't resist.

As I have said before, it is the hunt for the hard to find prints that I really like and finding standard 8 that looks really sharp on the screen is a real blast! You can't beat those Eumigs for quality on standard 8, but I haven't heard any reviews on the Elmo std 8 projectors yet either.

I collect standard 8 but mostly silent. I do have a few sound prints. I have a lot of 200' ers...Castle, Ken, Columbia etc. in there original boxes. I also have many Blackhawk train films and about 8-10 400' Laurel & Hardy's. I also shoot standard 8...well shot back in 2010 I used up my K40 in standard 8.

Most of my projectors are silent but I did recently acquire a Kodak Sound 8 in almost perfect condition....the sound is a bit garbled and low so I need to address that problem and then I could see buying some more sound prints. I do find the quality of standard 8 to be quite good overall...even the stuff I shot looks amazing (picture quality!)

Bill :D

Bill, I have a Kodak Sound 8 also, but I am getting no sound. It may be a wire not plugged in coming off the sound head. I have the Castle digest to be of excellent quality and Waltons too. The Walton color cartoons are on low fade. So fa I only have three features. All my prints are sound. If you're looking for a good sound projector with a halogen bulb, go with Eumigs.
