I haven't owned one but have spoken to others who had. It had more plastic parts than the GS/ST range and from what I can gather while the playback sound wasn't quite as good as a GS, recording facilities were[i]excellent
It was cheaper than a GS but more expensive than a ST1200HD. I like the ST1200HD model for its solid construction and reliability and the GS for playback sound in a hall.
Due to its construction, using a scope lens on the Chinon SS1200 wasn't as straightforward as the Elmo range.(or so was the perceived opinion of users)

Maybe I'm mstaken, but didn't Chinon have something to do with Dixon's over here in the UK.
