Which surface would produce the brightest and sharpest image? Looking at portable screens I find Silver and Glass Beaded both claiming to be highly reflective. Which is actually the best and what are the pros and cons with these materials and are there others out there as good if not better?

Whereas a White screen disperses (reflects) the incident light fairly evenly in all directions, a Silver Screen gives a narrower angle of reflection and the perceived image is therefore somewhat brighter. It also does not "de-polarise" the reflected light, so is essential for polarised 3-D presentation.
A Glass Beaded screen works very much like "cat's eyes" in the road; the vast majority of the light is reflected back in the direction it came, so you get a very much brighter picture over quite a narrow angle. Best for long, narrow rooms.

Don't forget Steve Osborne's screen paint. Steve claims 20% more brightness. I have not tries it yet. I have reservations about painting my 12' DaLite screen.

Dan,

I have a 135" pull down screen but nowhere to hang it or the projector to produce that size image. I might consider painting my portable 60" screen. :D

I had one of those huge pull down screens but opted for a a screen made out of "white" blackout curtain material. It works very nice. I got it from Mike Coffin years ago when he had time to have them made.

If something ever happens to that, I'll get Steve's paint and paint a screen on the wall (after smoothing it) then use 3" black border masking & hang NICE curtains in front of it for when not in use.
