Post subject:  Eumig sound question - SOUND CORRECTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sound on my Eumig S912 doesn't seem quite as good as it did when I got it. It is slightly noticable in the music score of the film. The dialog is good but music wavers a bit somewhat like a dragging cassette tape. I noticed that the plastic bottom part that drops down so you can access the sound head has become pretty easily opened and opens fairly wide. Could the problem be that it is slightly lose and not fitting nice and snug when it is snapped back in place?

Hi Roger. Under the sound head pressure plate there should be a rotating locking bolt, usually coloured orange on most machines. It turns right in order to remove the pressure plate and left to lock in place finally resting vertical. Hope this helps.

It’s worth carefully cleaning the small magnetic sound heads (metal looking small lines) using a cotton bud and some head cleaning fluid. Cleaning is tricky on these machines and you will need to bend the cotton bud head in order to get at it. Once cleaned you can pop the plastic pressure unit back in place with care and then lock it in place.

The metal spinning capstan to the left of the sound head also needs cleaning from time to time as on all machines they do pick up debris in use.
