Cleaning the CHINON 9000 for a friend that just purchased it. I decided to run film through it since that had not been done yet. I personally have never owned a projector with such low volume output as this one. The 6ohm 4w is certainly not going to blow your socks off but even with an 8ohm external speaker, which changes the rating to 12w max, is not much. Volume has to be set at 1/2 to 3/4 to produce anything slightly acceptable. There is basically no noticeable sound until the range of 1/4 to 1/2 volume.

Hi Roger, It sounds like its in the amp. Check the amp IC. That could be the problem! Good luck! Leon.

Decided to tap record button and the sound popped in a bit stronger. The sound will cut out now and then and you have to turn control to optical and back to magnetic or turn the sound on sound control to regain the sound.

Roger, You better give it a good cleaning! Get some tuner cleaner with Lubercant! Try and see what happens! Leon Norris.

It appears that it may have a short somewhere. When you plug in the power supply at times there will be a static like sound through the speaker for several seconds. The sound may or may not work when you start projecting. Turning the Sound on Sound control On and then Off many times will reactivate the sound. It will play for a bit and then sound will drop out completely. Again Sound on Sound will usually bring back the sound.

I cleaned the controls and switches with no success. I contacted the owner and he is requesting a RETURN from the seller on eBay. It was listed as NEW but I found a long piece of broken film jammed in the film path while cleaning it. Go Figure.
