| Post subject: | BLURRY FILM |
hello, everythings going well. ran a film last night, but noticed right from the beginning with text introducing the film was blurry. film was running fine thru projector, but picture would be sharp then get blurry all thru out film. does film just need a good cleaning. could upload a vid clip, but would probably be to big to post here. any help, much appreciated. |

Perhaps your film is warped or cupped. What you can try is to reverse wind the film. What this means is that you will take your film onto a rewind machine and give it a half turn and wind it tightly onto another reel and leave it like that for a week or so. What you are doing is causing the film to relax in the opposite direction and humidity will cause it to flatten out. In other words the film is now wound onto a reel with the header inwards and the tail outwards but turned in the opposite direction from the half turn. The half turn while doing this is important because it causes the warped film to flatten out again. You may leave a bad print wound in this position indefinately without harm. But just before projection you rewind it with another half turn back onto the original reel and you will see a razor sharp focus from edge to edge like a new flat print...works everytime! But with some films you need to wind them back the correct way the day before projection to give it time to relax, as some projectors won't run the film properly until the film has relaxed again with its original curl. But usually once this trick has been done there is no need to reverse wind the film again and it can then be treated just like other films and be always ready for projection. |
