Hello everyone. Greetings from Orlando FL.

I am a newbie here. I got a Argus 500 A-Z projector. It was suppose to be just for decoration ... but now I am trying to see if works. I turns on, lights up and spins. ( excuse my technical terms ) . I am looking on line for a reel of film 8mm. would any 8mm film / movie work on my projector?

Thank you

Andre

Hi Andre, welcome to the Forum!
Yes, your Argus is a REGULAR 8mm machine. SUPER 8 film will not work on that projector. The width of both formats is 8mm, but Super 8 has a smaller sprocket perforation than Regular 8mm film.
If you'd like, PM me your address and I will send you a reel of regular 8mm film so you can check out the machine. Do you need a take up reel? (But be warned--once you start in this hobby, it's tough to back out of it)

You are right about this hobby Chris! 1960 or 61 a little boy bought his first bl/w, silent headline reel. Now there are more than 2000 reels ( 8mm, Super8, 16mm and recently also 35mm ) and over 50 projectors in my collection. This year an old dream came through. I built a 22 seater home cinema, [set5_b/set5_b/hurray.gif] [set5_b/set5_b/hurray.gif] [set5_b/set5_b/party.gif] [set5_b/set5_b/hurray.gif] [set5_b/set5_b/hurray.gif]

Awesome, Mats. I've always thought the point of no return was just before I touched that very first reel in the collection. It was a headline edition, regular 8mm, like yours. If you have a mind to, I'd love to see some snaps of your home cinema posted on the Forum.

Hi Chris! There are still some things to do in my cinema. I have bougt a Bauer B11, 35mm projector, that I have to drive home from Norway ( I live in Sweden ). I also have to organize my collection. 35mm features are really heavy stuff and take a lot of room. I have some pics of my cinema but donĀ“t know how to put them on this forum. Shall I send them in a PM to you or Dan? I also have some pics from the Blackpool convention i november. ;)
