Has any forum member bought any of this Liquid Film Cleaner being sold on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261994484594? ... EBIDX%3AIT . From a glance it looks very similar to the old Derann LFC. If anyone has bought it and used it, perhaps they can let us know what its like.

I haven't used this particular mix but, you're right, Barry, it does remind me of the Derann product. I did buy some of Derann's LFC many years ago but never used it, as a well-respected fellow collector warned me never to use it on acetate film. He had some bad experiences with it.

Does anyone know who this firm, Visuals001, are?

I stick to Filmguard these days.

Mick, I'm curious what happens when using it with acetate stock :?:

I use Filmguard with the film-o-clean while projecting.

And for quick baths or tape residue removal I use my film renew (trade name) knock-off which is simple VM&P Naphtha (same stuff without the trade name) with some micro wax powder added.

Hi Wayne,

I can't remember precisely but I think he said it caused warping or some such. It was Kev Faulkner who told me of this experience a few years back. Others have mentioned peeling of the stripe with the Derann product.

PS: I just located an old thread on the 8mm forum discussing Deranns LFC and it would appear that it does indeed cause warping on acetate stock, being based on Isoprop - causing drying out of the base. Apparently, it was meant mainly for use with polyester. Do a search over there for Derann LFC. There's no way I can see to provide a link to the old discussion.
