Would like to know why CHINON projectors seem to run louder than most.

There was a company you probably heard of in the UK, Derann: way back in the 70s they used to have a hire library; one day in 'Movie Maker ' magazine, they announced that due to films coming back with torn sprockets, they would refuse to hire any more films to owners of Chinon projectors. Chinon, according to the magazine, had a good reputation regarding cine cameras, but not so projectors.

Thanks for the info. I just purchased a CHINON 7500 NEW out of the box for $100.00 post paid to use as a back up machine. I have an ELMO ST1200HD M O which has lost its sound and has other small issues and is currently being repaired by LEON NORRIS. I have not received the CHINON yet but knew it was far from being the quality of the ELMO. Having a 150w lamp and 12w output I thought it would produce a bright image and strong sound. I just found out that the DNE lamp only has a 12 hour life span, not good. I will carefully keep an eye on film wear if in use.

Robert,

Wasn't Chinon once a brand name used by Dixons own products?

Two days ago I purchased (through Craigslist) in good working condition Chinon SP-350 (paid $10). It's a low noise machine and has smooth threading. I put the machine on trail by watching four 400Ft films with sound and had no problems whatsoever.

P.S. I'm still looking for a free PDF copy of user manual for my GAF 3000S machine. Anybody?

Ramnish--it may be helpful in your search: I am 99% certain that GAF3000s is the same machine as a Chinon 6100 projector.

Chris: Thank you so much for your kind suggestion and also for your time & efforts. During my search for Chinon 6100 projector I found that "Chinon Sound 8000" is a perfect (if not perfect, almost perfect) match to the GAF 3000S. Here are the links for comparison:-

Chinon Sound 8000 - http://www.super8data.com/database/proj ... n_8000.htm
GAF 3000S - http://www.super8data.com/database/proj ... _3000s.htm

Now in my quest for a free pdf - - - the Chinon 8000 is also added.
Anybody please?

Yes Mick Chinon was exclusive to Dixons; they also brought out their own Super 8 film, Prinz Colour; it was the worst I ever used, seemed to be mostly green ,purple, and brown.

Chinon projectors may well have improved from the time Derann were having problems, but it's best to be aware of this with your precious film.

While we are discussing CHINON can anyone tell me what the black plastic screw off cap is mounted on top of the motor on the 7500?
