I need to replace the small belt on my Elmo ST 600. I'd love to do this myself, but have no idea on how. Is this something I can do myself, or do I need to send it somewhere to get replaced?

Jim--
Welcome to the Forum! Yes, you can replace the belt yourself---I am asking for a fellow Forum member to explain and help Jim--I do not own an ST600, only ST1200s and I believe the configuration is different. I'll also check for any repair manuals that might be online. Belts are routine maintainance and while some machines are trickier than others, it's something any owner should be capable of doing.
Again, welcome!

I have a broken belt (small) on my Elmo ST 600 and I'm wondering if there are instructions or videos out there to help me replace the belt?

Chris,
That would be wonderful! I'm in the process of converting my movies from the 70's and 80's into a digital format, and have finally gotten my set up so I can record the movies and import into my computer, so I want to keep the process going!

Jim, go ahead a buy a new belt set on Ebay. Shouldn't cost much. Look for a seller named isellprojectorbelts.

Remove the 2 screws on the back cover. There should be a horizontal long belt at the top and 2 drive belt on the motor pulley. If you have trouble finding a way to put the belts on, post a pic of the inside of your projector and I will offer help. Be sure to remove any black melted rubber that might be on the pulleys. You can use mineral spirits or alcohol and a Q-tip. While you're in there apply White Lithium grease to the nylon gear teeth. You can purchase a tube of this grease at a hardware store for $5 bucks. Also a drop of machine oil on any available armatures is good too. Put it back together and then use a Q-tip to clean the film path. You can use mineral spirits for this too or film cleaner. It should run very smooth!
