Post subject:  Nikon R8 Super Light Meter not working

Hi, I'm new here.

I just picked up a mint Nikon R8 off of Ebay and found that the light meter isn't working. I have new batteries fitted for the light meter but the needle wont move. The needle is all the way to the right, past F16, even using the manual metering knob the needle wont move unless I turn the knob and close the aperture then the needle dissapears out of view to the right.
The battery tester is supposed to move the needle as well to indicate the battery status but this also doesn't work.
Does there need to be batteries to use the manual metering knob or is this supposed to be mechanical.
I was thinking there is a broken power connection inside maybe from the batteries.

Does anyone know if this is fixable and which leatherette needs to be taken off to get into it. Or should I take it to someone to fix.

Regards
Mike

Thanks for the link Chris, I have read this one not long ago but unfortunately hasn't solved my issue. I hope its a simple fix as parts for this camera probably dried up a long time ago.

I may take it to a local camera repair guy I know.
