Has anyone had any experience with this machine? I never knew Eumig had produced a Xenon projector.

That's not a xenon lamp Mike. It's a Marc 300 which is a model well known to me as CRAP !! due to my experiences with a new B&H 16mm projector with marc 300 lamps that I had in use in my country cinemas in the early 1970's here in New Zealand. I'm surprised that Eumig would even think about using one of those, let alone calling it xenon. I had discussions with General Electric at the time and they sent me some very good info about the lamps and psu requirements. I can assure you the marc 300 system and the marc 350 model are as useful as crap on a Christmas cake.

Thanks, Frank.

What problems did you have with the lamps, specifically? Not powerful enough? Not lasting long?

I'm here.

I think the availability of Marc lamps is nil to none. Xenon is the way to go for white lamp and the black and whit silver screen image.

The marc 300 lamps were very unreliable in that some new lamps would strike on the first igniter pulse and run for up to 150/60 hours, but from about 2 to 10 hours most of them developed a white substance inside the glass (mica) envelope, which caused the light output to decrease to well below 50% or less. Some would ignite ok but fail as soon as they were switched off at interval and not ignite for the main feature. Others would develop cracks (devitrification of the mica around the areas where the electrodes entered the envelope) and become black within an hour or two of first installation. Most of them would gradually develop flicker as though they were running on ac instead of dc. The psu was checked for ripple but had a very stable dc output so it was the lamps at fault.

The marc 300 and 350 lamps were very expensive here, and I needed to carry at least twenty new spares because they were so unstable.

Sorry for ranting but I'm still very pissed off with marc 300 lamps, even forty years after getting rid of them and going 100% xenon.

I totally agree with you Dan. Even xenon lamps with 2000 hours on them are brighter and more reliable than marc 300/350 in my experience.

Wow, they do certainly sound like a loada crap, right enough.

So, back to my query, are there any other true Xenon Super 8 machines besides the GS1200?

Mike I remember someone here advertising a Chinon ss1200 with 250 watt xenon lighting but it's not a model mentioned on the super 8 database. It may have been a modified projector. That was in the early 1980's. The only factory made xenon super 8 machine I know of for sure is the Elmo GS1200 xenon of course.

Cheers Frank.
