Lower pulley vibrates only when in REWIND/REVERSE position but FORWARD runs smooth. The higher the front is lifted the louder it becomes. You can place your finger behind the pulley and slightly press forward and it runs quiet. You can also move to rear of the motor and press forward on the (shaft?) that pulley is mounted on and stop the vibration. Is there a cure for this issue?

After further investigation I found the fan was touching the rear of the casing when ran in reverse. I couldn't loosen the adjusting screws going in from the front of the projector so I heated the plastic fan with a hair dryer and pried the fan forward each time moving to another area until it no longer touched. I can once again use the idler/ tensioner and proper belt and still have a smooth running unit.

Can you provide a pic showing this pulley?

Hi Dan,

It's the white plastic pulley the drive belt fits on.

I see, it's the motor drive pulley. Have tried putting a couple of drops of machine oil on the motor shaft behind the pulley an let it run towards the back of the motor?

Dan,

It's a vibration that won't go away by lubricating it.

Hey Dan,

I was able to move the pulley back causing the belt to angle slightly forward in turn keeping pressure on the pulley holding it forward. Now even at it's max height adjustment it runs smooth. If it is elevated much beyond that point the vibration is again evident. The belt is not angled enough so that there is a risk of it slipping off the pulley.

I am replacing a drive belt this weekend on an ST-1200 so I will do a look-see on that mechanism and see if anything comes to mind to suggest to you. If you do not have a repair manual for that machine, here is a link to one you can download for free. I used my manual a lot last summer when I wound up overhauling three 1200s. http://www.mondofoto.com/manuals/elmo+s ... ce+manual/

Hi CHRIS,

I do have a copy of the repair manual but can't imagine what could be causing the vibes. The shaft that runs through the motor does have a very slight movement forward and backwards when you push or pull on the drive pulley. It's this slackness that seems to be causing the vibration.

Removed belt tensioner and replaced belt with slightly smaller one leaving tensioner from machine. The smaller belt applies upward pressure to the drive belt pulley smoothing out it's vibration.
