Just purchased another GS that the main motor was running slow.Voltage on the motor terminals was only 6 volt indicating power supply problem.I found one of the Electrolytics was open circuit and replaced it.Voltage was still 6 volts,so I checked the fuses on the Trany and found the 3 Amp one blown. After replacing it the motor runs like new.I am becoming an expert on these machines.
Good luck all,Marino

Good job, Marino, congratulations on the successful fix. I'm of a like mind and am learning as much as possible about my machines; I decided it's going to be up to me to keep these babies running properly as, it seems, competent repairmen and parts are becoming less and less.

Hi Chris,
I only mentioned this problem because a lot of people think that the motor control board(right hand side)is faulty and buy one from this German company, which is made by them and looks different, although they say it's the same. This the second machine I have that had motor problem and came to the conclusion that either the motor armature is shorting and drags too much current destroying the main circuit board,or the 3 main Electrolytics fail.Feel free to ask me if you ever have any problem with the GS.
Cheers,Marino

Good work, Marino. I figured a trained eye could replace the necessary part on any of these boards in the GS-1200, but for those like me, well, it's fork out the bucks for a new board. I have replaced the volume potentiometer and solenoid switch in mine. [set5_b/set5_b/smash.gif]

Hello Dan,I found the hardest part is getting at those parts, especially at the front of the machine.I have 5 GS's now and buyig a Xenon next month, which I repaired 6 months ago-Hell of a job. This is becoming an obsession,as I have thousands of reels of film and hundreds of features and serials.
Happy in film,Marino
