I hibernated last night AND today AND kept the Elmo ST-1200 purring with reel after reel of stuff I haven't enjoyed in years. First up was the Mountain Films release of BABES IN TOYLAND. I haven't watched this one in AGES. This used to be a standard holiday staple when the kids were little, but, hey, they got all grown up and moved away. And, I owned and screened the NILES cut of the classic. I sold the Niles print years ago but remember it was titled "March of the Wooden Soldiers". When I found a "Mountain print", which includes a few more minutes of the actual movie, I sold the Niles. Now--I am asking my fellow Forum members for information: I have a 74 minute 6 second cut of the movie. The Mountain release has the "storybook" opening, where Mother Goose turns the pages of a book and we are introduced to characters that will be in the film. I am all but certain this is NOT in the Niles print. Also, the Mountain print has Tom Tom singing the "Sandman" song to Bo-Peep in Bogeyland; I don't recall this in the Niles print. And, if memory serves me--the Niles print had a title board " "Federal Films MARCH OF THE WOODEN SOLDIERS". The Mountain print has an "Auerbach" TOYLAND title board. Anyone able to collaborate this? And, were there other Super or regular 8mm releases of this?
