Once you transfer your film to digital format. Aren't there digital effects you can use to create this look?

I wish to get an authentic look.

Actually Ektachrome is color reversal and comes in 40, 160, type A, type G. It can still be processed in color and for projection. Kodachrome II or Kodachrome 40 can only be developed as a B&W negative that has to be transfered to DVD or hard-drive to be seen. Tri-X or Plus-X are the B&W stocks but these can still be had fairly new and the Tri-X can still be bought brand new. I have a couple reg 8 Tri-X rolls from the 70's in the freezer. Haven't used em yet. You can find all kinds of old stock on ebay pretty cheap.

True that, but some of it is worthless. If your Tri-X rolls hadn't been frozen, they would be too. Just want John to understand this, because there's no way to know what you're getting if it hasn't been cold stored. However, a partially fogged Ektachrome might help give some of the effects that John is looking for. Outdated film is self-fogging. So, you might look for some outdated film on Ebay with more than one roll in the batch, shoot one and process it, and see if it's worth doing the rest of the rolls. If not, you have some nice slug blackout leader for your projector. If it's somewhat but not severely fogged, you'll get some random variations in density (the blacks wont' be black, in other words).

But don't bother with unrefrigerated film from the 70s and earlier - it will come out clear or nearly so.

Good points Bill. I did say you would be taking a chance with old stock. I have been suprised by some old stock and I also have clear leader that was a tad bit expensive....
