I am needing to replace a spring in my 800 and have no idea how it goes. Do you have a repair manual that you might post the page showing the break down of the area?

Hi Roger,

I think there was an Elmo ST-800 repair manual right next to the Ark of the Covenant, but unfortunately Indiana Jones chose the wrong thing to bring back! (-especially considering what happened at the end of the movie!)

-but seriously folks!

I've never seen nor heard of one anywhere, ever, and if I had the chance I would have snapped it up.

These days I guess the discussion forums are as close as you come to repair documentation, and that's not too bad considering some of the knowledge that is out there.

Which spring? Maybe I can help?

Hi Steve,

It's the spring that controls the record button when it is pushed in. The button locks in place the first time it is pushed and then unlocks when pushed again. It fell out and I couldn't tell where it came from. As far as a manual is concerned you might find it with the scroll that holds the secret of life in the 1932 UNIVERSAL film THE MUMMY.

I haven't used the record feature on my ST-800 in a long time, but I don't remember it working this way.

I believe it's not supposed to pop out until you switch the selector switch from "Forward, Lamp" to "Stop".

I have the owner's manual, I'll check it out when I get home later.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for taking a look in your manual. My problem is that ever which way it works without the spring it pushes into the machine and will not come back out. I have placed a spring guessingly inside and it now will push in and return to position but will not lock in place.

Take a look at another Elmo model. Some times they may use the same part just located in a differnt spot. I found this now and then when restoring old bikes and machines. There may be a cam lock (small )that catches and then release when you push in or out

Thanks Ed,

That's a thought but the only other Elmo I have access to is the 16-CL and it doesn't record.
