Really wish I could help you here Thomas, but it's got me baffled as well. All my Super 8 stuff is pretty old. I stopped buying in the early 80s. I have had trouble with one reel of 16mm, when I try to rewind it's uneven and it won't fit back on the reel, sounds similar to your problem. I had to put it on an old machine and rewind by hand. I couldn't see anything wrong with the reel, so don't know why rewinding is a problem. Forgive me asking in case you have already mentioned this, but does this happen with every film, or only some. If you had a spare 400ft reel you could try rewinding on to that and see what happens. I hope you can sort it, the last thing you want is to have to buy 600ft reels for every film.

Try mounting the projector upside down on a board. Then the film should sag back on to the reel. You'll have to lay on your back facing the screen [set5_b/set5_b/banghead.gif]

There is, of course, the "platter on a plank" winding and stretching technique, perfected by a member of another forum.

hello once again!!! this is my 2nd post. first post i remedied the problem. problem now is the b an h projector i use mostly for projecting. bought this from seller on ebay been running well. this projectior has a direction lever in the middle of the unit. when i want to view film, i manually pull lever up where it locks into position, when i want to reverse lever is pushed downward an then locks into position. problem i am having, want to view a 200 ft reel, film threads fine to take up, but then lever just drops down, i have inspected this film which was in the hands of a collector, very well taken care of. question, what is causing the lever to drop? i dont know anything about the inner workings of a projector. so i could be looking at something that possibly could have gone awry, but i will not see it. i have inspected the film an it looks fine w/ no torn sprocket holes which would certainly cause a problem. any help would be much appreciated, my last resort would be sending it off for repair.

Is this the same Sankyo in your previous post where film was sagging on the take up reel?

dan, i remedied the sagging film problem. this is the same projector as mentioned in my prior post. it is the sankyo 700 super 8 sound. problem now is that the threading mechanism will not kick in, also when projector is turned on take up reel will not turn. lil disappointed, bought the sankyo from a person who refurbishes projectors, did not use very much, sankyo is less then 6 months old. i am hesitant to open back of unit, i am not mechanically inclined, any help, much appreciated.

Thomas, I'm afraid there's no way we can help you fix it if you don't take the back off. If you can remove the back and take a photo or two to post on the forum we can probably see what's wrong .I'm going to move this topic to combine it with original post.
