Nostalgia here from Erik. My cinema gave up on the system he describes thirty years ago. This was mainly due to the light loss and the circuit's refusal to put in a larger lamphouse. We were already pushing it with a 1.6kW xenon and the 3D films looked terrible (when you could see them!).
Don't mistake me, I'm not an advocate for Digital (see my signature) but we must move with the times. The distributors and the cinemas have made their decision, what we in this country refer to as "l.s.d.", and probably in the USA as "bottom dollar".
