I guess we members int he US have noticed lately some people use the word "like" very often and it comes out like this:

I saw Rick today and he was like really amazed at my new haircut. He like said it like made my head like look bigger than like a basketball. Well, I like freaked when he like said that because I like have no hair. Rick said omg wtf and was like rotflhao. It was sooooo bizarre that I like nearly ran off the road and started like driving 10 and two. I never drive 10 and two, wtf?? Rick is like a little into retro, but he's like a nice guy. My friends and I like just overlook that?

Is this like happening elsewhere in the like world? [set5_b/set5_b/toetap05.gif]

I've noticed that for quite a while, I think it affects younger people more. What has been annoying me lately is that people no longer seem to know what "awkward" or "literally" mean anymore.

What irks me is the overuse of the word awesome [set5_b/set5_b/puke.gif]

How about the ones that keep pausing and saying er or ah.
When I was in school and someone reading aloud did that I wanted to shove the book down their throat to shut them up [set5_b/set5_b/willy_nilly.gif]

Technology is making more people illiterate in some age groups. How many times have you seen misspelled words online -- that is what spell checker software is for!

One more: those that say "axed" instead of "ask"

It is in the UK, Dan.
The word 'like' appears to have replaced 'said' in youth culture. I know language is always changing but it can be annoying. The word 'basically' is very overused and every sentence must include 'you know' at least three times.
I love being a grumpy old man.

It's happening here too, Dan, as Mal says. It's irritating. Everytime I hear it I'm like can you speak properly. Even more irritating is the use of a non-word following it. Such as:

" He looks at me and I'm like... huh... and he's like... duh...and I'm like...wha?...and he's like....eeeeuwwww....." etc. etc.

Another, and for me even more, irritation with the language these days is the tendency of people to make EVERY single sentence a question by lilting upwards at the end.

I also hate the term "going forward". In fact I hate all "management-speak" - - the invention of a new self-important language

Like...Grrrrrrrrr [set5_b/set5_b/cuss.gif]

I'd forgotten about that one. I believe it's called the rising inflection, Aussie teen soaps were deemed to be the culprits for it taking hold in the UK

"MY" kids rarely use the word even in the proper context just for the simple fact they don't want to hear me give them a hard time...where the fun comes in is when they are with their friends and their friends drop a "LIKE" bomb in ear shot of me. [set5_b/set5_b/willy_nilly.gif] [set5_b/set5_b/rofl.gif] [set5_b/set5_b/smilielol5.gif] for most of them, it only happens once.

Not being racist but one thing I hate is being Axed something. I axed him or I axed her. That's actually being called out on many shows on television. It's annoying. Another term being used around here is calling everyone 'fool'. I had a guy at a local bar call me a fool for not hanging out with a bunch of drunk kids to hear my friend's band. A hispanic guy, (I'm half mexican) followed me out of the bar yelling 'hey fool why you not stay?' I told him politly that I didn't need to hang out with drunks. From that he went on a slur calling me 'fool' at least 6 times. Not bragging but when I finally balled up my hand and drew back he knew not to mess with me and backed off. Calling someone a 'fool' every other word is offensive but I have noticed it a few times now.
