I used to have a Face Book account, but closed it. I just could not get interested in FB. Too much "about me" and day to day life like "I washed my car today" or "My dog fluffy says, hello" or "OMG, WTF". [set5_b/set5_b/iamwithstupid.gif]

What IS "Facebook"? That's about how interesting it is!

I enjoy Facebook. I've connected with lots of people from my past thanks to Facebook; scattered as they are, I don't believe I would have otherwise crossed paths with those people again were it not for Facebook. I also get a quick glance at what my kids are doing thousands of miles away, checking out their photos and updates. To a lesser degree, I use it in promoting my business and that has had its own reward. I like to give Facebook a few minutes a day--kind of like a quick glance at a newspaper--reading what is interesting and disregarding the mundane.

I use it purely as a promo tool for my music. It's invaluable for this, I've found.

I'm with Mike-

Invaluable tool for shameless self promotion for us musician types. I post all of my gigs/current information and have sold CD's all around the world because of Facebook. I've also hooked up with long lost friends and it keeps me in touch with family.

I fall in the same category as Chris, Mike, & Tim. [set5_b/set5_b/iagree.gif] Besides, Mike's music links, Charles Beardsley puts up a LOT of nice pictures from time to time from his parties at the Playboy Mansion. [set5_b/set5_b/reddevil.gif]

Seems like I'm the only one who has managed without.... just as I have for the last 75 years! But then I find I've been able to exist without an Ipod permanently grafted to my ears, a mobile phone WITH a camera and Internet connection, a laptop to waste ALL my time on and an E-Book Reader. I've always taken the view that I should only buy what I really NEED; I don't have to have something just because it's THERE!
Am I just an old fart... or am I really STUPID?

Well, after reading these replies, maybe I had better rethink how to use FB.

Martin, it's time to put down the chisel and stone. [set5_b/set5_b/smash.gif]

As I'm probably the youngest person on this site,I should probably share my experience. Back when I first got onto Facebook, most of the posts were really were just mundane things about people's daily lives as you described. However among my group of Facebook friends(which unlike some, I only add people who I have physically met) ,at least, it seems to have matured somewhat. Most of my feed now consists of internet memes(which are usually funny) and updates on projects of people who I actually know rather then status updates every five minutes. There are problems still of course, such as people who don't know how to use the chat function and fill my entire feed with an entire conversation. So I guess my point is is that my age group has just gotten used to social media sites being a part of our lives. I don't go to facebook much, I spend more time on a website called Reddit.com, which is a site where users post links from around the internet for all to see.
