How come UK thrift stores never have anything cine related??? Out of interest, Dan, how much did you pay for the machine? |

Mike, I paid $40. It's very rare that I find any projectors in thrift shops. If I see one, usually it's a silent B&H. Actually, that is how I got back into home cinema. Back in 1995(when I was just a wee ladd ), I came a cross a Bell & Howell 500 series projector and 25 educational films. It was a half price day, so I pick them all up for a total of $75. I still have some of the films. |

My first thrift store find was a B&H 266A in excellent condition with working lamp for $10.00. Still have it and it still works great. |

Here are a couple of pix of the ST-800. Anyone know what year this was made. It has a round plastic window on the back about the size of a quarter to view the voltage selector. It also has a 2 prong round power out. It looks like it has never been used. The inside is also sparkling clean. The belts have turned to goo. After I replace them and lube it, I'll report back. It's missing the power cord, but I did manage to power it up. The amp is clean and the motors is smooth and quite.

Hey Dan, Nice machine: the opticals are unusual! I think you may be missing a part. There is a curved shoe that sits at the bottom of the lower loop that flattens out the film so it can pass over the sound heads. It has a sprung plunger which holds the stripe to the playback head. I don't see this in your photo, but then again the resolution and the shadows may be hiding it. |

Steve, I just compared it to my other ST-800 and all the parts near the lower loop are there. If you look to the right of the bottom sprocket, you should see a a small light green part. This part is flexible as the film runs under it. |

It's a mono machine. It does have record capability. 800' reel capacity. 150 lamp. BTW, I need a power cord for this baby. Here is a pic of the power out:

That power cord is a new one on me: my ST-800 also has an unusual cord, but different from this. I really like it when they use the IEC-320 style cord (Like on ST-1200 HD): if you lose or damage the cord, a replacement is no further than the closest dead computer! |
