For years I believed my first projector was a Christmas gift of a hand cranked battery light sourced BRUMBERGER plastic machine I was in awe of when I was 9 years old. I even received TWO 50' Castle headline reels with it (Woody Woodpecker and Oswald the Rabbit.) But it dawned on me recently that I had a projector a few years before that: the MICKEY MOUSE CLUB NEWSREEL PROJECTOR. What was YOUR first machine?

Chris, is that a photo of your projector? If so, that is a reel collectors item.

My first projector was RCA PG-201 16mm and for super 8 sound, a Eumig712. I still have the PG-201. Back in 1973 that Eumig was very impressive and still is. Before the Eumig 712 I used a B&H silent(forgot the model). I would make films, then record a sound track on my tape deck with sound effects, music and narration. It synced up pretty good as long as you weren't syncing dialogue. I still have one of those films, but due to not being able to acquire permission from the people in the film cannot put it online.

Wow, does that bring back memories???!!! I had one of those contraptions too. Had a cardboard slide strip that encased the thin strip of film that contained the grainy b&w photos. The projector had a push button to advance to the next frame. There was a 7" record (that might have played at 33&1/3 rpm) that came with each film strip program. I distinctly remember a rather drab voiced/monotone announcer on the beginning of each record saying, "Push the button when you hear this beep", and a beep would sound.
I guess it was later that Kenner came out with the "Give-A-Show Projector", I had one of those too.
I guess I was 9 or 10 when my father finally caved and gave me access to his Revere 88 regular 8mm projector. It was around that time I also became an "Audio Visual Aid" in school and every morning would deliver various type projectors to the classrooms they were reserved for each day. Throughout the day I was also called upon to assist teachers who found threading 16mm projectors just too complicated. Good way to miss a few minutes of class here and there. I had forgotten all about that projector. I, too, had one when I was 8 years old. I had made a dark theatre out of an old very large cardboard box. I conducted showings for several of my friends in it.
