Some of you may remember The Nostalgia Merchant, which sold Super 8 and 16mm prints of Republic movies back in the late 1970's-early 80's, then moved on to the early years of home video with a library of Republic, RKO Radio, and Hal Roach titles.

Thomas "Snuff" Garrett, who operated that company, died December 16 of cancer at age 77 in Tucson, Arizona. Garrett's background was in the recording and music publishing industry, and he produced strings of hit songs in the 1960's and 70's for Bobby Vee, Gary Lewis & The Playboys, and Cher (both with and without Sonny,) as well as a series of easy-listening albums as "The 50 Guitars of Tommy Garrett."

Garrett also worked with Frank Sinatra, Tanya Tucker, Roy Rogers, Vicki Lawrence, Eddie Rabbitt, Brenda Lee, David Seville, Jim Nabors, Walter Brennan, Telly Savalas, Ray Conniff and many other artists.

Survivors include his third wife Nettie and four daughters.

I remember the name Snuff Garrett in connection with Liberty Records. I think he was responsible for adding the strings to Eddie Cochran's 'Hallelujah I love her so'.

I remember Snuff Garret from record production. Didn't know he worked with Walter Brennan. "With the sun beatin' down, across the fields I see...that mule, old Rivers and me". "One of these days I'm gonna' climb that mountain". RIP.
