I recently attended a show at the COLONIAL THEATRE in nearby Phoenixville, Pa. The theatre gained immortal fame in 1958 when it costarred with Steven McQueen...

Chris,

What great memories. I remember the extras running out of the theater. Some were laughing! Hey, did you happen to step in any red chewing gum. [set5_b/set5_b/willy_nilly.gif]

The "running out of the theatre" scene is iconic and is reenacted each year at the annual Blobfest held at the theatre. It's a big weekend festival with a street fair, bands, 50s vehicles and, of course, showings of THE BLOB on the Colonial screen.

Hey! This could be the USA's version of The Running Of The Bulls, only call it The Running Of The Blobs". [set5_b/set5_b/cheers2.gif]

That is a really catchy, cute, cheezy, and completely out-of-place song. Sweet.

This thread prompted me to check with my local video store, and sure enough, not only do they have The Blob, but it's the Criterion Collection DVD with full director commentary and other goodies. I have a particular interest in that because a close family member used to work with Yeaworth (the director), though not on these movies. Hopefully someday I'll have time to watch it!

So thanks for this discussion, guys, as a result I've learned a lot of interesting things.

I want to know if the name Bela Lugosi was on the marquee during the running of the blob like the original film?

Roger, yes, Bela's name was on the marquee. If you click the link in my above post (Blobsite) there is a video of the running out reenactment and you can check out the marquee.
