Post subject:  HELP PLEASE !

Hi guys I am new to this forum and need help .

I bought my first projector a " Rank Aldis Automatic " upon further investigation I believe its actually a Bauer P6 .
I cleaned up the machine and she looks fantastic , ran some tape though , its paying perfect but the Exciter lamp not working therefore no sound ! Checked the fuses and the 1,6 amp fuse was blown , replaced it but every time I put in a new fuse and turn on the sound the same fuse blows .I thought it was a short so checked all the wiring , cleaned all switches but still that fuse blows therefore no exciter lamp for the sound .

Has anyone had issues like this ? I now think it must be on the main circuit board at the bottom of the projector , could it be Caps or transistors ? I cant seem to find a service manual for this machine therefore cant locate the circuit .

I see no ICs on this board therefore it cant be blown IC.

I collect old reel to reel tape decks ,turntables and 1970s hi fi s , I can do basic tech work ie replacing caps and component replacements but not that great at fault finding , this is my first projector , think I am Hooked :)

So if anyone has some advice that would be great .

Guy

Hello Guy, and welcome to the Forum. This company has a copy of the service manual in English.
http://shop.van-eck.net/MA-1098.html

They also have manuals for Rank Aldis.

Hey Guy,
The manual would be a digital version, not a paper one so you won't pay shipping costs
With kind regards,
Thijs

If you register you can read the manual free. http://suzukigsx1300rhayabusa.tk/rank-a ... nglish.pdf

I did a bit of searching and the Rank Aldis is according to other owners, the Bauer P6.

Robert provided a very useful link and at 12.50 euros it would be worth the download.

Richard Patchette or Ken Layton would know a possible solution. Maybe they will chime in.

Here is a youtube of the automatic in action. Very impressive design. https://youtu.be/5IylSDuHCVg

Thanks guys for the advice

Yip I think I will have to bite the bullet and get the manual cos I am searching around in the dark here , its gotta be a short somewhere but where ? :)
Yes the decals read " Rank Aldis Automatic " but its a Bauer p6 , I am going to find some history behind these machines , they must have been made under licence .

Thanks again

I found a couple of items in Google Books, but unfortunately you can't read the full article online.

Thanks for that Robert

Yes it would appear that Rank Aldis was just the brand name but built by Bauer , really solidly built , plays fantastic except the sound :)
