I'd guess most of you know who Tom Stathes is, but if you didn't get an email from him you may be missing out on some great work. I'm copy pasting this assuming he would want the extra publicity.

Dear Friends and Supporters,


I know it has been a long time since many of us have been in touch. I'm reaching out to give you a couple of very important and very exciting updates about my work with early animated films!


First, Turner Classic Movies is dedicating an entire evening to early and rare animated films on Monday, October 6th. It feels surreal writing this, but I will actually appear on one of the programs, co-hosting with the one and only Robert Osborne. I've provided TCM with an hour's worth of cartoons from the Bray Studios, which was the first successful cartoon studio and responsible for giving birth to the animation industry. The films come from my archives and the Bray Animation Project. This is really exciting and the kind of thing that almost never happens on television, so I hope you're able to tune in and join the fun. I also hope my stage fright doesn't show through! Second, I'm proud to make an early announcement to you all about another fun project that will hopefully reach even more viewers. With the help of colleagues David Gerstein and Steve Stanchfield, I'll soon be releasing a brand new collection of silent and early sound cartoons. Called "Cartoon Roots," the collection will be a Blu-Ray and DVD combo, so BR player owners can enjoy the films in sparkling HD and those of you who only have DVD players can own and enjoy the collection as well. This set is intended as an introduction to silent animation; a mixture of fun and rare titles from various studios...including a few titles you might never expected you could one day see, in HD no less. Farmer Alfalfa, Bobby Bumps, Jerry on the Job, Krazy Kat, Mutt & Jeff, Felix the Cat and even a couple early sound rarities are proudly represented. We plan to have an Amazon pre-order listing posted in time for the TCM broadcast since the release will be mentioned on the program. The collection is scheduled to be available for shipping in early November. It will hopefully be the first of several such releases from my archives.


If you have any comments or questions, feel free to get in touch! I will likely send a reminder about the broadcast and a link to the Amazon pre-order page for the Blu-Ray in about a week, and beyond that, I'll probably only send out messages like this once or twice (or thrice) a year when some major new project comes along. That's fantastic. I've bought from and sold to Tom over the years. Great to see him doing well at this.

Yes, same here. [set5_b/set5_b/iagree.gif] He is inspiration that the hobby will last at least one more generation.
