Well hello all - Just back from my 7 week European sojourn - got to the BFI but missed Umit - never mind - any way all the best to Mick and Dan - haven't checked yet to see If smaller format is still operational (functional being probably too strong a word - but hey I'm fresh and ready for a go!)

I'll be back soon with some interesting quotes from a certain "core" person in this conversation but let me close now with a quote from Oscar Wilde (courtesy of John le Carre)

"If one tells the truth, one is sure, sooner or later, to be found out"

Hi Guy,

Welcome back.

If I'd known you were in London, we could've arranged a meet.

Hi again Mike and Dan ...

Dan - not sure what the emoticon represents but by way of explanation re my quote

Read Le Carre's "A delicate truth" whilst travelling - never read one of his novels before but it was rather good. The Wilde quote went to the heart of the story - it's often the tellers of truth who are ostracised and labelled a problem - I thought it was a telling coda to this and related sagas regarding "cores"

Mike - would have been nice to catch up but honestly it was a whirlwind four days - didn't get to experience any live music but loved what we experieced of London - from an outsiders point of view a big, wonderful and yet "traditional" city - beautiful. We stayed at the Mercure on Southwark (Road?). Made our local the "Bunch of Grapes" at London Bridge. Great fish and chips at the Borough Market etc etc. BFI was a blast (finally got my elusive blu ray of the Hammer Mummy plus others and some great books) Did much else but probably sounds like a beige tourist trip!) but hey - we'll be back next year and will be a bit more "local" in what we do - I'll definitely let you know and see if we can arrange to meet then.

.... and as I said earlier I would follow up with a post or two about said core person. He (you) will no doubt read this and I'll try to keep it general enough to not be harshly personal.

I did send a free 400 ft Fleischer cartoon - paid the postage from the other side of the world and even made cover art for it (I cared about your enjoyment of the gift) Imagine my surprise when I saw it listed for sale even using part of my description for it (looks like cine color). I always felt that was not right. your acknowledgement about that was the following -

Oh, it was "Popeye Meets Sinbad the Sailor". Shortly after I got your print, I won a print on ebay from a late 1980's printing, and it's absolutely gorgeous, so I chose to sell the print you gave me.

Thank you.

The emoticon was me telling the truth, then running off to found. :D

I too have been given films from members, but would not sell them. I might pass(free) them on to someone else acknowledging it was given to me. Don't think I've even done that.
