I would LOVE to own this print as it's part of a series of theatrical studio public relations shorts released to movie theatres in the early 1950s. I read the entire auction description, however, and immediately placed a query to the seller. I mean, I've heard of film on reels, of course, and film on cores, but film on neither? Am I misreading or missing something here????? (Still awaiting seller response.) http://www.ebay.com/itm/16mm-Featurette ... 27df419c05 I just checked some of their other auctions and it looks like NOTHING is on a reel or core. A new one for me.

I noticed the same thing. All of that sellers films are without reels or cores. But hey they all have "BOOMING sound"

In the 1950's through early 70's I had never seen 8mm, 16mm, or 35mm cores here, and all trailers in 35mm had been wound onto a one sided reel and then removed from it and placed into a can of the correct size. To wind it onto a reel for inclusion into a screening, we placed it on the spindle of a hand winder and wound it onto a reel carefully. 8mm and 16mm films always came on reels.

Cores only came into use here when film distributors began using cardboard cartons to ship features. Of course that got rid of heavy bulky reels and made shipping 35mm prints cheaper because they were less bulky and much lighter in cardboard cartons.

Regards,
Frank

Picture this, you buy this seller's films and reel 'em up. They look great to you, but what's that "booming" sound? [set5_b/set5_b/sifone.gif]
