Caution to my Forum friends. I have been on eBay for around 16 years and have maintained a decent feedback rating of 100%. I sold mucho film over the years and described all in as much detail as possible. Yes, I would watch "educational" films just to describe the contents and condition to the winning bidder. It paid off -- I made may many friends, sold lots of reels, had fun watching interesting stuff. Well, back in November I list for auction a very nice 16mm print of Bachelor Father. The series was never a favorite of mine, but I wound up watching the entire print--it was entertaining and I kept thinking to myself how nice the print looked--visually flawless as far as lines go. I get a bid, sell it, promptly package it, and off it goes to its new owner. Welllll, I then get this in a message from the winner: “It "hurts my ears to hear this film. Never heard so much distortion. Beautiful picture and again horrible sound. No it isn't my projector. Not pleased at all. What are you going to do about it before I give you a very negative feedback. Not pleased."I ascribe to the “customer is always right” (even if I know they’re not.) I offered him a complete refund, postage refunded both ways, plus $5.00 for the hassle of repackaging and mailing it back to me. I know, I know, much too generous. Well, I hear nothing. I figure the guy realizes he threaded the projector wrong or some such thing that accounted for the “horrible” sound. Then—all of a sudden—he leaves a NEUTRAL complaining about the sound. I wrote him and asked him why he hadn’t returned the print etc and told him I watched the entire thing and it was fine on my projector. He writes back, tells me I am a “fair” person and says he’ll keep the print. Meantime, I earn a “neutral”. I fire off a letter to eBay and explained as I did here, but to no avail. I did go back and follow-up on the excellent feedback I left him (I usually leave feedback when paid by a buyer.) I noticed, too, in HIS feedback, that another seller left complaining follow-up feedback as well.
He was a little too quick on the draw as far as I’m concerned with his threatening “what are you going to do about it before I give you a very negative feedback.” This is intended as a heads up—I see he’s new to 16mm eBay buying and I recognize a number of people that sold him films through auction. Hopefully, he’ll see the error of his ways and turn out to be okay, but it won’t be through any of my auctions. His eBay name is: greenspan1223

That was weird....I typed in a repsonse and I clicked submit and Dan's message appeared and mine disappeared.....I'll try again....

...now I have to remember what I said

Boy, some people. I only buy things on eBay now and I don't sell anymore because of situations like this. I've never had one myself but by not selling I won't either. That's bad that someone can tarnish your good record for no apparent reason. Looks like you took the high road, good for you!

Bill :D

Dan-- too many numbers in my brain these days...it's 'greenspan1223' and I corrected it in original post.
Bill: thanks for your comments. Fortunately, stuff like this is so very rare, at least for me. In fact, except for a few mailing problems many years ago, I encountered only one other person, a buyer, that was a thief and a liar. I won't name them--they are blocked from this Forum--but they are one of the reasons I was happy to join Dan's 8mm Forum Worldwide.

Meh, you're still at 100% and 5 stars (and I helped!). Those neutrals will be gone soon. I think real buyers know the score. With buyers protection I'm even willing to overlook any recent negs.

My recent bad experience was a buy-it-now scope lens that never showed. No communication from the seller either. Got my money back but a great disappointment. My long face continues to match those in my scope features.
