Dan,

Thanks for the well wishes! I'm doing much better, but still have a little residual damage, I think- whenever I pick up something heavy or really exert myself, I have a searing pain go through the front of my head where I hit it. I think I messed up the vascular system in my forehead or sinus area; I hope it gets better as time goes on. Medical insurance is a luxury the self employed don't often have.

Anyway, enough for too much information on a physical malady; I just posted a response on your thread; I hope it gives you some ideas!

-Michael

Yes Michael,
You've missed the boat. It sailed and you are on a Titanic row boat. Kidding of course. It's great to have you back on board with us. If it seems to be in running condition but needing a little TLC then I'd be interested. Heard nothing but great things about these projectors and even though I am kind of loyal to the Eumigs have been wanting an Elmo for years even if it needs a bit if elbow grease.
Let me know over email and we can discuss terms of sale. Also sorry to hear about your accident and hope for a quick recovery.

Recieved this projcetor on Monday. Was a time cleaning it up and installing all the new belts but works like new. Feel like I could start a websight about cleaning goo belts off pullys but knew what I was getting into and got a great machine out of this deal.

The best and most effective solvent to use to clean goo off any pulley roller on any Elmo machine that won't harm anything inside is mineral spirits or paint thinner. Don't use turpentine. The difference is paint thinner has oil in it; turps is pure gum (I'm a painter by profession) and mineral spirits cleans many melted rubber or acetate stains. WD 40 works, but doesn't have as much body. Have plenty of Q-tips, put an old towel under the machine and keep cleaning until it's all gone. You may want to remove some of the pulleys and soak them. The original ST 1200 from 1972 has only two belts, and usually the upper belt is the red nylon that lasts indefinitely, so that leaves you with one motor belt to clean/change. I've cleaned so many of these machines and changed belts with ease for years. Many of you can, too. I may post the next cleaning and changing belts on YouTube the next machine I acquire. I'll keep you posted.

What I did with the Elmo was first scrape everything off I could with small flat jewler scredrivers. I then cleaned all the pullys with 70% alcohol solution. I do agree though that paint thinner would do a better and quicker job. Still, I used what I had on hand. It took several Q-Tips dipped in alcohol to clean the pullys for the main drive motor and rollers connecting to it. I think the hardest thing was disassembling the rear and forward arm pullys just to install the new belt. On mine there were a couple guide plates that I had to remove then remove the pullys themselves for cleaning and installing the belt. The one small thing I did not get clean and didn't install a new belt on was the counter which I don't feel is a big deal. The projector I got was new but very neglected and I was scared to soak the gear on the counter in any solution because it is plastic made before I was and I'm not a spring chicken anymore.
Otherwise, the Elmo's were probably the best made projectors still out there and are worth every penny spent and every hour of elbo grease to get working again.
I talked to another member on the forum here about setting up either a video or photo page showing how to restore one of these. I admit I'm pretty much a dunce but I was able to restore mine and use it all the time now so anyone can do it.
