Hello everyone! I'm new to the forum but have a question.

I have always loved film but was a bit young when the VCR revolution hit. I remember ordering digests from the back of Creepy Magazine when I was a kid in the 70s and 80s. My parents bought me a super 8mm sound camera and projector on Christmas of 1982 when I was 15 and I still have the movies I made. Since that time I bought an Elmo 16CL in 16mm and an Elmo ST 1200 to view old films with the intention of getting back into collecting but quickly learned that the hobby was a bit over my price range!

So, here is my question and I hope I have put it in the right part of the forum because technically it is a sell:

I have a complete print of "Fiend Without A Face" that I bought on eBay. It came on four 400 foot reels that I spliced using a splicer I bought from Urbanski on to two metal 800 foot reels. I am not a professional editor and used Kodak Press tapes to put each 400 foot reel onto the 800 foot reel (also bought from Urbanski). I'm thinking of putting this film up for auction as soon as I get the chance to set everything up and get some screen shots. Anyone here know what this print is worth? I've watched it once and it is in excellent condition. I added leader to it because I am always concerned about destroying film. My editing leaves bright spots between the reels because I don't have the ability to edit perfectly and didn't want to cut out any of the film. If anyone is interested in this print I am open to offers but need to screen it and post shots first. In any case, I will post here when it goes up for auctions. This is a favorite of mine and the only super 8 sound I own in feature length. Thanks.

First, welcome to the Forum!
To answer your question, it's the old supply and demand situation: your movie is worth what someone is willing to offer and what you're willing to accept. Also, I wouldn't worry too much about the fitness of the splices--any collector will understand what you're saying--just describe the physical condition as you did in this post. It is definitely one of the weirdest horror films from the 50's and I think you'll find a few folks very interested in this one. I saw it in a theatre back in the late 50s, I was about 9 years old, and to this day have the image of the brain and spine slithering around like a caterpillar etched into my psyche. If I owned the print, and it was in good-very good condition, I would list it just shy of $100. Good luck with it!

I didn't see this film in theaters but am a sci-fi horror junkie and am probably the last generation (just turned 51) to remember independent cable television before infomercials ruined the era. I remember thumbing through the newspaper TV schedule looking for anything that sounded good on late night Fridays and Saturdays, not mention the weekend afternoon schedule and the Sunday Tarzan movies. And, as I mentioned, my introduction into film were the old Ken Films digests that were sold in Creepy Magazine. To this day, no matter how nice digital looks, there is just something about spooling up a film and seeing it on a screen that can't be matched. In my teens I remember subscribing to the Big Reel and looking at all the great ads.

I discovered "Fiend Without A Face" in my never ending search for movies that actually entertain in this era of torture porn and CGI garbage. My problem is that I am running out of films to see (at least on DVD and VHS)! I had the digest of "It Came From Outer Space" and, of course, have seen the entire film and all the others from the silents to the 80s. So, when I saw a chance to buy Fiend I snatched it up. But, as much as I'd like to, it just isn't within my budget to collect films. There are simply too many people with larger bank accounts than I have that think the same way! But, I'm just happy that there IS a community of folks who appreciate the medium!

So, thanks again for welcoming me to the board. Regardless of what I have or anyone else has it is really cool reading posts and hearing about these titles on film. I was concerned about my splicing but I think I'll drag out the screen and watch it a few more times before I let it go. When I do I'll post a link here and post up some screen pics. Whatever it sells for I'll know that someone else is enjoying it as much as I have and the person I bought it from.
