I think the SOF re-edit (version 2) came out in 1971 and I don't think that was issued in standard 8 sound...but that is just a guess.

Both versions were released in standard 8 sound. I have the second release in standard 8 sound. The second version was released while Castle still held the reigns and because the catalog offered it in all versions they had to continue to issue it in standard 8 sound.
Of course when Universal 8 took over everything was then just super 8 and 16mm.

Thanks Jim...I wasn't sure how long standard 8 sound was issued after things were available in super 8 sound.

What was the difference in content between the two releases?
Was there much difference at all?

Michael....The first version had more talkie laboratory scenes with the monster laying on a table most of the way. The second version has a few extra scenes with Igor and more action with the monster. There is a thread on the other forum with Doug giving a blow by blow description of the two versions with more detailed info.
