Hi folks Many (most) of my features are spooled on 1200ft and 800ft reels (one even on 1600ft Taylor reels). I don't have the capability to re-spool them and would like to lighten the load on my projectors by manually rewinding. To that end does anyone have a set of rewinds for sale, or can point me in the right direction - I dipped my toe in the water on this topic a while ago and was directed to a distributor that has an undoubtedly nice product but it was several hundreds of dollars - wondering if there is a less expensive option? Hey Guy, What size film are you working with? There are plenty of us oldies here to help you find something cheap to help out. A set of 35mm or 16mm rewinds can be had for about $20 if you know where to look. Adapters for super 8 can be found for around 5 bucks at the most from reputable dealers. |

Hi Erik and thanks for responding. If Super 8 can be adapted to 16mm rewinds than that would be the go as I have mostly Super 8 but am slowly growing a 16mm collection. The biggest reels I have at the moment are 1200ft Super 8, plus a couple of 1600 ft Taylor reels with the smaller inner core. My 16mm is limited to 2000 foot reels- my projectors are limited to those sizes, though the drag on the motor rewinding the 1600 feet of film on my Elmo is what prompted me to consider rewinds - save the motors and belts for projecting only, and also make it easier to clean prints by hand! I never thought much of rewinds until someone found a cheapy Std 8mm Craig editor at a garage sale for $10 and got it for me. Not needing the viewer, which wasn't very good anyway, I remounted the cranks on a block of wood, and their height is sufficient to handle 15" reels. Of course, the spindles are "universal" and could handle 8mm or 16mm reels. Then another small editor set turned up, good for 600' 8mm reels. Now I don't know how I ever lived without them. Absolutely essential. Happy searching, Guy, you'll be glad you did this. |
