Hey Guy,
I have a thought, these were designed to be used specifically on Elmo1200' projectors. They have a smaller middle spool size which allows them to hold onto more film than the large 1200' reels that Elmo's can accomidate. I've mentioned this before but I'll do so again, if you have an Elmo that can handle 1200' reels then you've probably already replaced the belts since the original belts have turned to goo. As long as the belts are tight then you should have no problems using these larger reels just keep in mind that the Tayloreels are not autoload but manual load.
Also not sure what you are talking about when you talk about the load on the motor. The tension load defaults to the belts when it comes to take-up arm speed.

I am still hoping to get these ordered soon, but my economic situation, and other things, put the project on hold. Once I am in the financial state to make such an order, I will e-mail everyone interested. Might try to find a "co-orderer" if I can't handle the whole cost alone.

Guy, I think your question about load on the motor is a reasonable one considering you're asking it to turn a few hundred extra feet of film, which weighs more. But consider how light these plastic reels are compared to a steel 1200' reel and that point becomes moot. The Elmo aluminum reels, however, are quite light.

In any case, the GS-1200 I've been using has a front arm gear that's starting to crack and I never use it to rewind any more. The added load would definitely be a concern. Get an old editor, or a pair of cheap Craigs with plastic super 8 adapters, and you'll do better.

Thanks for the replies folks. Since the original post I've picked up some nice rewinds at a good price. I also have the option (at the moment) to buy at least one Taylor reel (1600 ft). So for the time being I will keep the prints mounted on the larger reels and use the rewinds - may cut them down later as I only have one projector that runs 1200 ft reels and it need servicing. My others run 800 foot reels.

Cheers - GT

Hey Guy,
I know where you can get plenty of the 1600' reels if you really need them. What are your problems with your 1200' projectors? We can help out on that paroblem. What kind of servicing are you looking for? Belt replacement isn't easy but most of us are experienced in that if you have questions.
