Post subject:  Kodak M80 Dual 8mm Projector

Although this unit is heavy for it size and built from metal, it does have one major flaw. The shutter gear is plastic. It disintergrates over time and just falls abart. That of course, renders the projector useless. Now, you can buy a new shutter with gear attached for 38.00 from kodak.com. Also, you have to send in your old shutter for a 10.00 core credit . If you don't then you get charged 10.00 more! Another problem is the damping arm where the film enters the feed slot. It falls apart in your hands. Now, if your really handy and have a lot of time and patients you can order a gear from McMaster-Carr (#57655K35 spur gear 2.76) and epoxy it to the old shutter. This is only for people like me who have lots of time and like to experiment. The replacement parts from Kodak are upgraded to a better material. You can d/l instruckions fro kodak.com. But let me warn you it is not an easy fix. You have to dismantle the whole projector to get at the shutter gear!

Other than these problems, the projector is a nice looking and running unit. It has a 400' reel capacity and has the usual features rew, fwd, etc. The bulb is a DNE 150wt 120v which are still readily available.

So bottom line is if you see one at a yard sale, ask to plug it in. If it's on ebay for parts rest assured the shutter gear is no good. I believe the newer models had an upgraded gear.

And now our feature presentation! [set5_b/set5_b/hurray.gif]
