I have "discovered" 3 reels in metal cases of 16mm film which are described as Radiotelevisione Italiana (RAI) ROMA, Soggetto PANORAMA ITALIANO Versione Inglese AUSTRALIA (numbered 266 - 268). They had been previously in the possesion of an Italian family who emigrated to South Australia immediately post WW2. I am not sure of their content or whether they are footage of Italy or Australia but it would appear that they are for English consumption.
My question is if they are of any value and if so, what would that be and who would be interested in them?

Mmmm...............just discovered a bit more. It would appear they are Newsreels from Italy in English (perhaps) as some documentation inside no. 267 (dated 7/4/1971) gives an indication to the content.

Opening : The Tricoloured Arrows?
Special : The Art if Silk Screen Printing
News Flashes : Fashion in the Snow at Cortina
Fiat 127
Variety : "AMSTERDAM" sung by Rosanna Fratello
Sports : CAR RACING - "Who is Andretti?"

Presumably No 266 & 268 would contain similar content???

Hi, Warren!

Welcome to the forum. If these are from a 1971 TV show, then they are probably in color. Can you tell by looking at the film strip if the color is all red or does the full spetrum appear to be there? I know several collectors in Australia. Maybe one is close by and could project the film for you and give you an idea what it might be worth. Just a guess from experience tells me it is not a highly valuable film, but I could be wrong. What part of down under are you in? :D

The part that says "Versione Inglese" must mean it is in English, but I'm sure you figured that out too. [set5_b/set5_b/iagree.gif]

Hiya Dan,

Thank you for your reply. I have had another look at them but they appear to be in B&W and I think you may on the money regarding the TV Show / Current Affairs program (perhaps sent out to Australia for homesick Italians to have a look at).

I am in Adelaide, South Australia and if anyone would like to collect them, they could have them as it would appear that they would not be of much value. My phone no. is 08 8431 4663 / 0411 810 229 if anyone would like them.

Cheers [set5_b/set5_b/cheers2.gif]

Warren,

What size reels are they on? 8" diamter, 10", or 12'. These are approximate measurements give or take a fraction of an inch.

Hiya Dan,

They actually measure 9.5" in diameter and on investigation I have discovered other papers detailing the content of No.'s 266 & 268 respectively

266

Special : Saint Francis - Brother Sun
Feature : Sister Moon
Newsreel : Italy & Yugoslavia / Common Aims
Zurich 1971 "Intolerence"
Rome / The discovery of the virulent hepatitus virus
Variety Live : Celentano and the Alpine Chorus
Sports : Football / Catania - Inter

268

Special : Turin / International Industrial Vehicle Show
News : Stravinsky - Repose at Venice
Flashes : The Rebirth of Tuscania
Variety : Zapponeta - sung by Nicola di Bari
Sports Live : Basketball / Ignis - Simmenthal
Italian Champions
Football / Milan - Naples

Dunno if any of that makes sense to anyone Dan, but there it is [set5_b/set5_b/banghead.gif]

Cheers

Warren
