give it time Mike, it will warp [set5_b/set5_b/willy_nilly.gif] I had a couple prints that stunk for years before finally warping.

I have to agree with Wayne. I have a few WW2 prints that stink all to high heck but play flat for now. I expect them to warp in the near future but for now they may stink but play fine. For those that don't know, vinigar syndrom is from the film base. 100% Vinigar was mixed with cotten fibers and created a plastic-like compound that was fire retardent and held emulsion. In it's time it was stable but after years it seperates from the cotten fibers. That's why you get the strong vinigar smell when it starts to break down. There are chemicals on the market which can knock down the vinigar smell and it seems like there are some that can restore some of the flexibility to films. Not sure there is a cure-all for the condition. I've had some luck with a couple chemicals.

I have been tempted to try this one day... http://www.freepatentsonline.com/6969581.html

THEN I'll get to work on figuring out what removes photo-guard besides 200 grit sandpaper [set5_b/set5_b/sifone.gif]

I have a print of Martin & Lewis's Sailor Beware and reel 2 is warped looking on the side of the reel. It doesn't go in and out of focus when viewing. Not a trace of vinegar smell on the reel two either.

So, can a this happen and the print not have vinegar syndrome?

Hi: First post here, Dan... [set5_b/set5_b/coolgleamA.gif]
Warp can be caused by several factors. Long term storage with a loose wind will cause warp. Excessive humidity, or a print being exposed to water, will cause warping of a print. Lastly, a print can have had vinegar syndrome and through airing and ventilation over a long period of time the VS smell goes away. However, in these cases the print may have a ribbony or warped appearance due to the vinegar syndrome, and still project rather well. These prints DO have vinegar syndrome, even though they do not smell. If the print has VS and now does not smell, putting it in a closed can will cause it to smell again.

I'd love to hear Larry's excuse for deactivating my account...I was unaware of any policy where if he does not like what you say on another forum could get you banned from his....or was it the fact that he reads private PM's? I guess anything is fair game now...what is the worst that can happen...put a black mark on my permanent record that will follow me for the rest of my life? [set5_b/set5_b/smilielol5.gif]

Wayne:
The reason you were banned from 16mmfilmtalk can indeed be what you say on another forum. Note that Administrators of forums cannot read private PM's. The boards are designed so private PM's are accessible to only the sender and recipient.
It is evident you have attacked my products and integrity here...for just one example I sell crap tape so you can sell your tape? viewtopic.php?f=13&t=885
Was it really necessary to bring my company into your sale attempts? Is that the best you can do? You are now the Filmrenew chemist?
My integrity and honesty in the collector/archival community is unquestioned, except by you. You have been attacking me personally, and I take it personally.
Urbanski Film does not sell inferior products, and Urbanski Film sponsors 16mmfilmtalk. I am far from insecure, and as far as my morals are concerned, removing you from 16mmfilmtalk was certainly not immoral...it was my choice.

Larry you are showing how freaking ignorant you really are, I am NOT selling tape...if you can read, you will see where I was only passing along information as where to get it. Don't forget the timelines Larry, the reference you site...came days after you had deactivated my account...do you care to remember what actually got you upset enough to deactivate it and WHERE it happened??? We both know it was a reply I had made on Brad Miller's forum days prior to any post I have made on Dan's forum...more details needed???

Also, thanks for proving other points for me while you were at it. [set5_b/set5_b/rofl.gif] It is a strange world you live in... [set5_b/set5_b/party.gif] And as far as filmrenew goes, when your own friend gave up what it really is, why would anyone have to be a chemist??? [set5_b/set5_b/smilielol5.gif]

Just to get it straight, anyone on your forum can bash and attack anyone, just as long as it is not you correct....think real hard before you put your foot in your mouth some more. [set5_b/set5_b/boxing_smiley.gif] As I said before, you live in a strange world pal.

Larry, thanks for joining the site too, or was it just to vent and you don't plan on coming back to share in the community? If it is just to vent, well then you really don't want to play on that field do you? [set5_b/set5_b/toetap05.gif]

EDIT: and Larry, if I were attacking your integrity or lack there of, I would tell the world how I PAID you to have some parts custom machined for me, and several months had passed before I got around to using them before I realized they were machined wrong....I would tell people how you wanted to charge me to fix them instead of standing behind your product...or how a non-forum user called you up for a projector service & repair job and you had him send it to your preferred repair man who I will add is NOT one of the repair guys who faithfully use your site but instead a guy who you got a percentage from...When R.N. got the projector back, it didn't work and you had him send it to YOU for repairs and you charged him again to fix what was supposed to be fixed the first time...I can go on and on if you like. Most people don't want to rock the boat, but do tell horror stories in private. [set5_b/set5_b/beatdeadhorse5.gif]

Dan, sorry 'bout the off topic [set5_b/set5_b/sifone.gif]

Wow. Didn't know there was more of a backstory to this conversation. I know I toted Filmrenew since I've had really good luck with it and with Larry's selling record but didn't think longer history was the problem. Didn't mean to starrt a firestorm between sellers just giving a buyers opinion. I will add that I just ordered an odd-sized reel from Larry and he responded imediatly. Didn't know this was a personal argument but from a buyer and not a seller, I'll stay on the buyer stance.
