Ah, perhaps that's it.
In any case, the Eiki Slot Load II that I had did have a rear sprocket in the position indicated in this manual, which, for me, was not visible enough for me to trust it engaging with perforations accurately.

All I can say is okay. It seems we may have slightly different models. Mine depends on the take up reel to provide tension once past the sound head with several spring loaded rollers. The one you had or have may be slightly different. I've been using mine almost two years now with no torn films even if rewound through the film path after disengaging the sprockets. Sorry you didn't have the same results I have with my Eiki but I'm still using it almost every weekend with wonderful showings. |

Yeah, they're very popular machines. I come from a 35mm cinema background and, probably because of this, I just prefer manual threading. It's just one of my many peculiarities.

I come from a 35mm background also. The theater I used to manage only had two screens but used Simplex machines that were first installed in 1936. When we closed from competition both projectors were using the same gears but one was adapted for Dolby Digital and the other was using an experimental infra-red sound head. Those old machines worked every night for me. On the other side I also worked at the other theater here in town using Super Simplex 35mm machines installed in 1999. They were tricky at first but once worn in they still run beautifully. All of course were manual load and I prefer manual myself but the Eiki for being a simple slot load and the luck I've had with it is great for home presentations. |
