At one time I owned a 16mm print of 9-5 (Dolly Parton) that had a mag stripe on the film but my projectors are all optical.

I was just going through some films I received over the last month (many just given to me so I don't know what they are) and found a 16mm with optical and a mag/balance stripe. Thought I'd post some pictures of it for those interested. The mag stripe is partially blocking the optical path. I have not run the film yet.

I just cleaned it and didn't even notice the mag stripe and when I did I grabbed the camera and posted some pics! I don't have a 16mm mag projector but I am going to see if the optical track will play.

You can find the Bell & Howell models in this list: http://www.paulivester.com/films/projec ... models.htm

I understood that some television prints were magnetic; I haven't seen any myself.

Thanks Robert. The film is about 900' and is in scope. It is a instructional film about how to drive a manual transmission car. Very cool film with good color. Looked brand new. Beautiful Porsche 911 at the beginning too!

Nice one, Bill. Interesting to see that stripe there.

I'd love to actually hear a 16mm track one day.

Yeah me too...if I ever get a 16mm mag projector I will. The optical on this print was English but I'm guessing the mag stripe is another language based on what has been discussed.

Any idea what 16mm full coat magnetic was used for?: someone had used this as leader on a couple of films I bought recently; I replaced it with conventional leader, as the auto thread was having difficulty in engaging.
