Lately with some films on my Eiki SL-0 I've had problems with low sound. I've checked everything there is to check but couldn't find a problem. Variable density and multiple track soundtracks all worked great but modern double track and single track films were all low sound. Decided to replace the sound lamp and found when I got the replacement that the filimant had developed a bead right in the middle of the original lamp. I've had lamps burn out over time but haven't seen this. Granted this projector came from a school and had seen more than a little time in use back in the 80's plus the exciter lamp was original to the projector but I haven't seen a lamp melt like that. Not really pointing out a problem it was just interesting to see a bead of metal in a working filimant but it did create a huge problem with sound. The new lamp did correct the problem and have run several features in full sound double optical since then. |

bad light will definitely hurt sound quality, but the metal build up is a new one...usually I would find my sound issue would be from putting in the wrong exciter bulb. Any chance you saved your mutated filament for a picture? |
