Post subject:  Intersting problem with my Eiki

Lately with some films on my Eiki SL-0 I've had problems with low sound. I've checked everything there is to check but couldn't find a problem. Variable density and multiple track soundtracks all worked great but modern double track and single track films were all low sound. Decided to replace the sound lamp and found when I got the replacement that the filimant had developed a bead right in the middle of the original lamp. I've had lamps burn out over time but haven't seen this. Granted this projector came from a school and had seen more than a little time in use back in the 80's plus the exciter lamp was original to the projector but I haven't seen a lamp melt like that.
Not really pointing out a problem it was just interesting to see a bead of metal in a working filimant but it did create a huge problem with sound. The new lamp did correct the problem and have run several features in full sound double optical since then.

bad light will definitely hurt sound quality, but the metal build up is a new one...usually I would find my sound issue would be from putting in the wrong exciter bulb.

Any chance you saved your mutated filament for a picture?
