Looking at a Filmovara zoom converter for my Elmo 16mm. Mine has the standard 2" 50mm lens. The converter is said to go 40mm to 60mm. My question is would that make any significate size difference from the 50mm standard lens?

Roger,
A 40 mm lens gives 25% more picture width than a 50 mm one.
A 60 mm lens gives 17% less picture width than a 50 mm one.

Hey Martin,

You said 40mm gave 25% more width. What about height?

filmovara's do what they are supposed to do by helping fit the image on the screen at a "certain" distance that can't be altered. IMHO IF you can alter the distance or change a lens do so. In my "personal" experience I have lost sharpness of the image and loss of light on the screen when I have had to add a filmovara lens.

I have a Buhl zoom converter that is a little sharper than the B&H Filmovara. But a fixed prime lens with shorter focal length - of reputable quality!!! - is better yet.

I had used a Filmovara B&H lens years ago. It was a full replacement lens and not an add-on but provided a huge image at a short distance and was pretty sharp but probably not the best. Still was a heck of a difference from the small image a 50mm lens could show.
